Meet your butcher

I have had a long love affair with food and farming. While I haven’t lived on a farm for a few years, I still have a passion for supporting our local farmers and ranchers. In this vein, Salt River Meat Company was born. Salt River Meat Company is a small scale, cut and wrap meat processing facility in an underserved area of Wyoming. Wyoming farmers and ranchers produce some of the highest quality meats and I want to provide a product and service that compliments their efforts. Our goal is to provide a much-needed service in the community that will support area agriculture and serve as a link to consumers looking for  locally grown food. 

Becoming a butcher wasn’t always my dream… I once was a chemist. It’s a winding path that moves you from chemist to butcher. Moving from what I thought would make others proud of me, to doing what makes me deeply satisfied. The more involved I become in understanding our food supply vulnerabilities, the more I want to make a small difference in ensuring wholesome food is available in our neck of the woods. Butchery has been an undervalued trade for some time, but I think a growing number of people are appreciating the necessity and craftsmanship that is involved. 

I grew up helping my family butcher hogs and cattle for personal use, the feeling of carrying on a family tradition and turning it into a career is filled with nostalgia and pride.
